Here is the hierarchy of the France administrative divisions: France is subdivided into regions, that are at their turn subdivided into departments, that are at their turn subdivided into cantons, that are at their turn subdivided into communes, cities, that are at their turn subdivided into villages, called-places.
French Wines are classified as AOP (Appellation d'Origine Protégée), AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) before, VDP (Vins de Pays) and VDT (Vins de Table), their calling is protected by International Laws according to the region of the production.
